Can anyone prove that the AIG bailout was unnecessary?

Nobody can prove or disprove either theory, how can you prove something about a 'what if' scenario that never happened?. How do you define 'necessary'? Would civilization collapse? No. Would things have been better in the long run if we hadn't bailed them out? We'll never know.
