Epideral or Spinal Block?

I had a mild case of spina bifida when I was born. It was so mild that i developed normally and can walk, run, everything a normal person can do after surgery. However, I'm 8 weeks pregnant and was wondering if it would be safe for me to have either of the two labor pain reducers? I'm going to the doctor next week and I'll ask her, but I'm wondering if anyone else can relate?
